Zao style kokeshi こけし (wooden doll) by 有路静夫 Ariji Shizuo (b. 1939). Created by the artist at age 38. Miyagi Prefecture. Originating in the mid to late Edo Period (1603-1868) kokeshi are regional folk crafts, traditionally from 温泉 onsen (hot-spring) communities where visitors would often purchase them as a reminder of their stay.
